One of the biggest cost-saving decisions we made was keeping our existing kitchen cabinets. If your cabinets are still in great shape, there’s no need to rip them out—a fresh coat of paint can work wonders! Painting your cabinets not only gives your kitchen an entirely new look but also allows you to customize it exactly to your liking.

Starting with the Cabinets – A Fresh Start

I knew right away that the first step in our remodel had to be painting the cabinets. Not only would it minimize mess, but it would also create a clean and refreshed foundation for the rest of the transformation.

And let me tell you—I couldn’t wait to say goodbye to those orange cabinets! I had been dreaming of a calm, sleek, and modern kitchen for so long, and this was the first order of operation to bring that vision to life.

The Transformation Begins

I started by painting both the front and back of all the cabinet doors, making sure to give them the attention they deserved. When I applied that first coat, I had a moment of hesitation—I actually loved how the wood grain subtly peeked through the paint, giving it a soft, natural wash.

For a brief moment, I considered stopping at one coat because I really liked the transparency and depth it was creating.

But then…

I applied that second coat—and it was true love at first sight!

The richness, the depth, the calming effect—it completely transformed the space. I had never felt such a peaceful energy in my kitchen before. It was like my kitchen finally started to reflect the warm, cozy haven I had always imagined.

Finishing that final coat was the moment everything clicked. I could finally see the vision coming together. The kitchen no longer felt chaotic—it felt intentional, inviting, and ready for the next steps in our transformation.

This first step—just a simple coat of paint—was proof that you don’t need to do a complete demolition to make a space feel brand new. Sometimes, all it takes is a little creativity, a couple of coats of paint, and a whole lot of excitement for what’s to come!
